Dentists use an apparatus called an endomotor for treating the tooth cavity and root canals, which remains the best tool for these purposes to this day. And it's considered the best for good reason! To perform treatment without complications, the doctor utilizes an endomotor with an auto-reverse function. This function automatically changes the rotation direction when the bur gets stuck in the root canal.

To prevent bur breakage during the procedure, special nickel-titanium alloy tips are used. This alloy is known for its strength, which is crucial for the work of a dentist. After all, if the bur breaks, its fragment could complicate both the ongoing and future treatment of the tooth, not to mention the damage it could cause to the root canal.

This is precisely why endomotors are equipped with various functions, and the rotation speed and torque parameters are carefully adjusted.

Interestingly, an endomotor with a fitted bur allows for the shaping of a conical root canal. With this canal shape, the sealing process will be of high quality and minimize the risk of filling material displacement.

There are several types of endomotors:

  • Mechanical - considered safer as it has minimal electrical components. However, it's now rarely used, giving way to the electric type of endomotor.
  • Electric - divided into wired and wireless types, but the choice should be based on convenience in operation:

Wired electric endomotor includes an endodontic handpiece (tip + micromotor) and a small control unit to which the handpiece is connected. This setup is convenient as the control unit often features a large display. All parameters can be viewed on it, and models with apex locators even display real-time images of the endomotor bur's movement through the root canal along with canal images and torque data.

Wireless endomotor comes with a rechargeable battery charged from a specific power unit. The endomotor itself consists of an endodontic handpiece with a display and functional buttons. While it has a display, it's compact and designed only to show the most important parameters.

Key functions of an endomotor include:

  • Automatic reverse - activated when the bur gets stuck in the canal or reaches the apex. This function is essential for an endomotor.
  • Adjustment of torque and rotation speed - two basic functions present in any endomotor.
  • Apex locator - determines the depth of the canal, often with an image displayed on the screen. This function is optional but very useful.
  • Operating programs - pre-set programs with specified parameters can be established in an endomotor. This allows for quick configuration before use.
  • Illumination - improves visibility and enhances safety during procedures. This function is not mandatory but beneficial.
  • Display - should be of high quality, bright, and display clear parameters.
  • Energy-saving - especially valuable for wireless endomotors with rechargeable batteries.

When selecting an endomotor, carefully study all the functions and parameters. Different models have different batteries, operating times, programs, etc., which affect their price and efficiency.

The company Saeyang has released four endomotors:

  • Two wireless models of the same type (Endo A Class LED and Endo A Class APX) with similar functionality, differing in the presence of an apex locator and speed range.
  • The wireless model Endo A Class - simpler than the previous two.
  • Endo E Plus - a wired model with a control unit and extended functionality.

The models Endo A Class (APX) and Endo E Plus have similar functionality. Choose the one that seems more convenient for your work.

After using an endomotor, always perform cleaning and sterilization. Follow the instructions and timely send the device for repairs - and it will serve you for a long time.
